ESC Trench Shoring System
A trench shield system is generally used to ensure the safety of those who are performing digging and excavation works by providing protection in cases of trench wall failure. In addition to ensuring worker’s safety, trench shields (also known as trench boxes) also help increase productivity for the project.

Key information about the system or product can be explained in different aspects as follows:
ESC steel trench shields are used to protect workers from possible trench collapse. Trenching is a necessary part of construction work. When digging for building foundations, laying pipes or telephone lines, installing valves, or a number of underground works, the work is done primarily in trenches and preferrable in between the safety of trench boxes.

ESC trench shield consists of two robust modular panels. These panels line the walls of the trench and are held in place by spacers such as struts or spreaders. ESC spreaders are available with adjustable or fixed pipes that are arranged perpendicular to the panels that hold the trench walls in place. The panels and spacers are secured in place over collars on the panels and bolted together.

ESC Trench shields can be used in place or as drag boxes. Drag boxes are pulled along the trench by an excavator or other mechanisms with chains, cables, and hooks as the work progresses. The more common “in place” types cannot be moved along a trench and must be removed only once work is completed in that area.

ESC’s prefabricated trench shields are available in standard sizes or custom-built for specific jobs. ESC Trench Shoring Inc. ESC offers steel trench shields and trench box for sale. The design and materials used to manufacture a trench box can vary and generally depend on a variety of factors, including the depth (depth rating) and soil conditions.

* Depth ratings include consideration of surcharge load of 72 psf.
* All 4’ and 6’ shields can be used as Extension Shields.
* As per NAXSA recommendations, depth of cut has been limited to 40ft for types A, B and C60 soil, and 30ft for C80 soil regardless of the capacity of the shield. If deeper cuts are required, it is recommended that a professional engineer is engaged to evaluate the site and soil conditions and specify a suitable trench shield or other shoring solution.

Make sure that all workers involved in the installation of trench boxes are properly trained and supervised during assembly and installation.

Plan all lifting equipment needed for the excavations ahead of time to ensure that the correct lifting operations can be used.

Don't use trench shields on unstable ground and near structures under increased loadings that require different shoring systems to handle the pressure.

Inspect all components, including lifting points, spacers, clips, and pins.

Access the box only through a ladder.

Never move the box while personnel are inside the excavation.

Do not use any unsupported part of the trench as access.

Upper boxes and extension panels should not be removed until the top of the lower box is above ground level.

To minimize damage, do not lift the box by the struts and do not load it sideways.

Attach the access ladder and guardrails before use.
